20 Years of Innovative Products
In 1990, Jim Vincent founded RIO in the mountains of Idaho based on the idea that exceptional fly fishing products should be built by anglers for anglers. Twenty years later, they are still based in Idaho and driven by that same ethos.
Most of the staff at RIO are your basic passionate fly fisherman, who look for any excuse to get on the water. That means they’re constantly tinkering with tapers, coatings and cores to bring you the very best lines available.
Jim Vincent has spent time fly fishing in New Zealand and as a result of his experiences he designed lines specifically for New Zealand’s diverse fishing conditions.
Choosing a Fly Line
In the old days if you wanted to buy a new fly line it was simple — double taper or weight forward? Nowadays the fly line world seems more complicated. What was once a simple matter of buying the right line has turned into a selection headache.
Why so many? Because the modern fly fisher has become more aware of the subtleties in line design. Just as there is no single vehicle that is the best for both on-road and off-road performance, there is no single line that will perform in every condition, in all types of waters and cast every fly size with ease.
Rio Floating fly lines
RIO Introduces its NEW AGENTX Formula and Super Fusion technology.
RIO Products leads floating fly line technology with the introduction of its NEW AGENTX formula to their RIO Grand, Nymph and Selective Trout lines using the process of Super Fusion Technology. By simultaneously combining an inner core of AGENTX formula with an outer PVC coating the highest floating, smoothest casting and most durable fly lines available today have been created. The process has been taken one step further in the first 4 feet of the tip of the line, the portion of the line where achieving consistently good flotation is most difficult. RIO apply 2 coats of pure AGENTX to the first 4 feet to produce tip sections that float both higher and longer than the tips of other floating fly lines.
RIO Saltwater Lines
RIO Saltwater Lines are designed to perform well in the high temperatures and warm water confitions encountered when fishing in locations such as the Pacific Islands.
RIO Main stream Lines
MainStream fly lines are designed to meet the overall needs of the beginner to intermediate fly fisher. They have slightly shorter heads, tapers & running line lengths than other Rio floating lines. The shorter front taper of the MainStream lines helps casters achieve tighter casting loops & positive turnover for better distance & fly presentation. Mainstream lines undergo the same rigorous production processes and quality standards that are used for all RIO fly lines.
Tippets & Leaders
RIO tippet materials were rated as the number 1, 2 and 3 best selling tippet materials in the USA*. Using RIO tippet materials you can choose from a thin diameter copolymer (Powerflex), a very cost effective 100% fluorocarbon (Fluoroflex) and the strongest, thinnest 100% fluorocarbon available (Fluoroflex Plus). All RIO tippet materials are on interlocking spools & each spool has its own Le Strap. This patented strap is very effective in stopping unwanted unravelling of tippet material. Specifications are printed on the Le Strap which allows easy identification of tippet sizes even when several spools are locked together. * AFFTA Industry Survey
