We really love these tests where magazines compare different products. It's great to have independent reviewers cut through the hype that some companies surround their products with and judge it on the most important thing - performance. We're not surprised that Leatherman's NEW Supertool 300 was judged 'Best in Test' by the prestigious Field and Stream Magazine in their October 2009 edition. After all, Leatherman has been working on refining the Super tool models for the last 10 years, and the latest Super Tool is the result of immense user feedback.
In this test, the Leatherman Supertool 300 was up against Gerber's Ripstop Multi-Plier, SOG PowerAssist and Buck 730 X-Tract.
One thing we have to say - Field and Stream really take their product testing seriously. The test panel consisted of four men, with the magazine giving a profile on each man including their ages, their home water/woods and the number of days they hunted/fished per year (We're wondering if Orland Koonce, who states he has hunted or fished for 100+ days in the last year, has a wife...)
Each tool was evaluated on construction, design, performance and durability. The Supertool 300 impressed with its innovative removable wire cutters and the extra-strong pliers. With an overall rating of 4 ½ stars out of five, it emerged as the clear winner. Another triumph in a history of triumphs for Leatherman Multi-tools.
